Paul Adrain Doty passed away on Saturday, September 18, 2021, in Fort Worth, TX, after an extended illness.
Doty was born March 9, 1941, to Claude and Anna Lois Doty, the fourth of five children, in Lynchburg, Ohio.
He graduated from Clay High School in Portsmouth, OH, in 1959, which he followed by joining the United States Air Force. Over the next four years he was stationed in TX, MS, and Canada.
He began a courtship through letter-writing with Ruth Ann Doty of Fort Worth, Texas, in February 1962. They were “introduced” by Paul’s Air Force buddy Buzz Sculley and his wife Tippie, a close friend of Ruth Ann. They began communicating daily through letters and phone calls. After five months of a long-distance courtship, Paul flew to Fort Worth and met Ruth Ann in person on July 1, 1962. On July 4, he proposed and she accepted. Not everyone was pleased about the engagement. Ruth Ann’s father, Gordon Trantham, refused to give the couple his blessing or to walk the bride down the aisle until a few days before the wedding.
On September 29, 1962, they were married at Oak Knoll Baptist Church, in Fort Worth, Texas.
Paul’s last orders were at McClelland Air Force Base in Sacramento, CA. Their first child, Lisa Ann, was born October 13, 1963, at Sacramento Memorial Hospital.
Paul and Ruth Ann agreed that he would apply to Southwestern Bell in Fort Worth and if he wasn’t offered a job, he would then apply to Ohio Bell In Columbus. Whichever company hired him first, that would be the location where they would make their home. He was hired by Southwestern Bell as a Cable Spicer Helper so Texas it was.
Their second child and only son, Steven Adrian, was born April 10, 1966, followed by daughter Robyn Evette, on December 26, 1970, both at Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth.
Also in 1970, Doty and Ruth Ann opened their home as foster parents for the next few years.
They were active members of St. Paul United Methodist Church and First Methodist Church, Boyd, TX, where Doty sang faithfully in the choir and served in several leadership positions.
He was very active as a Boy Scout Troop Leader for many years, guiding son Steve through Scouts.
Doty joined Life Church in Fort Worth in 2007 and enjoyed the seniors group.
Doty and Ruth Ann enjoyed traveling across the country by travel trailer and also enjoyed numerous cruises.
Doty was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years, Ruth Ann Doty (2015), grandson Reid Oliphant (2020), his parents, brother Carl and sisters Joyce and Karen.
He is survived by sister Kaye Schuyler, children Lisa (Steve) Oliphant, Steve (Julie) Doty, Robyn (Jimmy Hutto) Pitman, grandchildren Patrick (Ava) Oliphant, Josh Pitman, Jennifer Bartlett, Grace Oliphant, Hunter Doty, Beth Presley and Brooklyn Hutto, great-grandchildren Grayson Presley and Penelope Bartlett-Oliphant.
A graveside memorial service and cremation burial is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, October 23, at Greenwood Memorial Park, 300 White Settlement Rd., Fort Worth, TX.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Life Church, 7850 Davis Blvd, Fort Worth, TX, 76182.
