Pauline Elizabeth Shelton, 93, passed away Sunday, May 22, 2022. Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm, Thursday, May 26, 2022 at Burleson Church of Christ, with burial to follow at Burleson Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service.
Pauline was born February 28, 1929, in Fairfield, Missouri to George and Grace Mabary. She was the youngest of six children. Her dad passed away when she was two years old, but she had the care of a loving mother, aunt, uncle, and older brothers and sisters. All of which have preceded her in death.
She enjoyed her school years, singing in trios, quartets and mixed quartets. She loved sports. Along with other classmates, Pauline went to Kansas City and was employed by Hallmark Cards as a retouch artist for four years.
Pauline and Harvey were married in 1950. Harvey was drafted into the Army one year later. Pauline took a leave of absence from Hallmark to be near him in California. Their son, Doug was born in 1954 and daughter, Pam was born in 1957. She loved being a housewife, mother, and later, a grandmother. She worked part time while the kids were in school. She was a church secretary for a few years and did Bible correspondence for years also.
Harvey and Pauline became members of the Church of Christ in 1955. She taught different ages of young children in the church at Raytown, Missouri, Arlington, Texas, and Holly Lake Church; always guided and loved by her heavenly Father. She also aided the elderly in hospitals and homes in the different congregations. Pauline cared for her mother for four years and Harvey’s mother for twelve years.
In 2016, Harvey and Pauline moved to a small home on Scott and Pam’s property where they enjoyed being closer to family. In the last few years, she lost some of her eyesight and arthritis destroyed some of her mobility, but she had the care of her loving husband and children. In 2020, despite her own physical challenges, she helped care for Harvey in his last days. A short time later, Pauline was diagnosed with cancer and she opted to come home and forgo treatments. This did not diminish her sweet spirit or giving heart. While she was able, she enjoyed painting originals for loved ones.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey; her parents; and her five older siblings.
Pauline is survived by her son, Doug Shelton and wife, Nancy; daughter, Pam Barkley and husband, Scott; grandchildren, Brian Shelton and wife, Carol, Chris Shelton and wife, Meredith, Valerie Chambers and husband, Josh, Daniel Barkley and wife, Michelle, Nathan Barkley and wife, Lindsey, Steven Shelton and wife, Shirine, and John Barkley and wife, Tara; and fourteen great-grandchildren and one on the way.
