Peggy Joyce (Smith) Dixon, 78, of Arlington Texas, passed away on September 11, 2019.
Peggy was born in San Antonio on June 4, 1941 to Helen Rose and Kelly Merle Smith. She graduated from Adamson High School in 1958. After high school, she married and had two children, Jeffrey Doyel Lester and Lori Allison Lester.
Peggy attended Arlington College for one year, and then began working for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. She began as a clerk typist and worked her way into finance planning/administration. During her career, she received many performance awards, and she also had the opportunity to travel to Saudi Arabia to participate in various military construction projects. She spent five years in Saudi Arabia, and traveled to many different countries including Thailand, Hong Kong, Singapore, Greece and others. She retired after 36 years of service in 1995 at the age of 54. After retirement, she moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where she lived for 20 years. She worked various part-time jobs and had many hobbies including tennis, bowling, and the Red Hat Society where she was the queen of her chapter. She was also an active member of Bucks County Community Church in Langhorne, Pennsylvania.
Peggy is survived by her daughter, Lori Lester Holder (husband Daniel), brothers Mark Shattuck and Michael Whatley, grandchildren Jerry Lester II, Robert Lester (wife Katie), Chase Lester, Victoria Lester, and great-grandchildren Lacii and Reese. She is preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey Doyel Lester, her parents and grandparents.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 3pm on September 22, 2019 at Lucas Funeral Home in Keller.
