Perry Wayne Vargas was born on April 20th, 1943 in Galveston Texas and went to be with the Lord on Sunday October 27th at 81 years. He was preceded in death by his Father Otto Vargas and Mother Eva Perry Vargas, his 4 sisters Salina, Marie, Gloria, Lucia and a brother Jr. He married the love of is life Vera Ornelas on September 30, 1962. They were married for 62 years have 3 children, Eva Hatfield married to Dennis Hatfield, Marie Bengston married to Wayne Bengston, and Perry Vargas Jr. married to Rachel Reddoch Vargas He was blessed with 5 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Perry joined the Navy at 17 years of age serving 4 years of active duty and 2 years as a reserve and was assigned to the USS Watchman, a radar ship for the Navy. He served during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. Perry often spoke of the sea being so ruff they would be ordered to their bunks and strapped in when not on shift. He met Vera while serving in the Navy stationed in San Francisco during his last year of active duty. PERRY WAYNE After marrying Vera, they moved to his home town of La Port, Texas. It wasn’t long when Vera missed California, so they moved to California in the Bay area, where they lived for 15 years. During this time, he went to work with Flying Tigers and Vera began work with Bank of America. Perry was then transferred to DFW, were Flying Tigers merged with Federal Express. Perry retired with 38 years of service due to his Rheumatoid Arthritis. After retiring, Perry didn’t just sit around and watch TV, with the help of his son, they restored both a 1957 Bel Air Hardtop and a 1953 Ford F-100 Pick up. In his later years he enjoyed working puzzles to keep his mind active as his body began to slow. Perry was good with his hands and could fix just about anything. Perry was a member of the VFW in Grapevine for over 40 years, where he and Vera both actively served for years. PERRY WAYNE Perry was a beloved husband, father, papa and friend. He was loved very much, and we look forward to seeing him again in Heaven. The Family would like give a special thank you to the VFW and Auxiliary and especially Tara and Lanette for all of your help.
