Peter Della Sciucca

November 15, 1947 — June 28, 2021

Peter Della Sciucca, a retired software engineer, passed away on Monday, June 28, 2021 from heart failure at Texas Health HEB Hospital in Bedford, TX. Pete was 73 years old.

The oldest child of Galileo and Maria Della Sciucca, Pete was born in Atri, Italy on November 15, 1947. After immigrating to the USA, by way of Canada, at the age of 3, he became a big brother to Lina and David Della Sciucca. Pete was surrounded by friends and family while growing up in Tuckahoe, NY where he loved playing football, worked diligently in the produce department of a local grocery store, and graduated from Eastchester High School in 1965. After high school, Pete became a software engineer for IBM. In the late 70s, he moved to Bedford, TX, and then neighboring Euless, where he would remain for the rest of his life. In 1989, Pete met Rhonda, and the following summer invited her daughters, Meagan (11 yr) and Ashley (8 yr), into his heart and home like they were his own. In 1999, he retired from IBM, but continued working as a software engineer with other companies. On November 8, 2015, Pete became Papa to his grandson Eliot, and spent many tireless hours entertaining and caring for his new little friend as often as possible. In December 2015, he would officially retire from working as a software engineer from Digital Filing Systems and on July 4, 2016, Pete and Rhonda were married.

Pete always radiated a sense of confidence and rarely let obstacles keep him down for too long, although that damn hip of his tried its best! He was not always a man of soft words, and very often called those he loved best a pain in the ass, but he was also a man of action, and it was through his actions that his love really showed. When the situation called for it, Pete was also calm and patient and kind, and provided respect, stability, and protection for those he loved. He was a wonderful person to have on your side in good times and bad, and always helped those around him to the best of his ability. Pete was especially great with children and animals. He could be a big kid and loved to play with his daughters as well as his many nieces and nephews. He also almost always had a dog or two, and sometimes three, in his home and regularly donated to the World Wildlife Fund and SPCA.

Throughout his life, Pete was an active person, often involved in a sport, be it football, tennis, bowling, softball, or learning Tae Kwon Do. He also enjoyed watching sports and remained a devoted fan of the Mets and Jets, regardless of their wins or losses. Pete was a prolific reader and could spend hours alone reading his science fiction and fantasy novels or watching what can only be described as terrible sci-fi movies, but he was also quite the explorer and lived for travelling. He wanted to visit every corner of the world and loved his adventures to places near and far alike, which included attending nearby festivals in the next town, or traveling to places like the Texas hill country, San Francisco, Alaska, England, Amsterdam, and Panama. However, he also had a special place in his heart for cruising and took cruises to nowhere and everywhere he could.

Pete is survived by his wife Rhonda; daughter Meagan Forsythe with husband Joe and son Eliot; daughter Ashley Waggoner with partner Gloria Ambrowiak; sister Lina Della Sciucca; brother David Della Sciucca with wife Karen; niece Daneen Della Sciucca with sons Dylan and Devin Castro; niece Dori Helenese with husband Mark and children Arabella, Ayana, and Caleb; nephew David Della Sciucca, Jr.; and nephew Dean Della Sciucca with partner Alyssa; many many many cousins; and his constant furry companions, Biscuits and Tater.

Pete travelled far, loved deeply, and lived his life to the fullest. He will be missed.

Put Something In
Draw a crazy picture,
Write a nutty poem,
Sing a mumble-gumble song,
Whistle through your comb.
Do a loony-goony dance
‘Cross the kitchen floor,
Put something silly in the world
That ain’t been there before.
-Shel Silverstein
