Peter A. Pursley Jr., 71 of Hurst passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 09, 2018 following a long battle with cancer.
Peter was born January 22, 1947 in Chicago. He graduated from East Grand Rapids High School. He was a two-time All American tennis player at Central Florida Junior College. After attending Northern Michigan University, Peter became the head tennis professional and general manager at the Grand Rapids Racquet Club.
Peter was an entrepreneur, launching a myriad of projects including medical imaging, publishing, restaurants and tennis court construction.
In 1996 Peter and his wife Cynthia settled in the DFW area where they raised their children, Peter Pursley III and Demetra. In addition, Peter has three sons, Chris and Brian Pursley and Jamie Caio.
As the oldest of eight siblings, Peter was "upbeat and always fun to be around. He was an influential big brother," says younger brother Paul. "He was always willing to offer advice and encouraged people to follow their dreams," His children remember his advice on life, "Life is like a marathon, to complete the race you must put one foot in front of the other. Focus on your day to day and you will soon reach the finish line."
Peter loved spending time on his boat in Harbor Springs, MI where he also enjoyed playing tennis and often times could be found devouring crossword puzzles on the porch. Peter is preceded in death by his parents Peter A. and Lila Pursley of Harbor Springs, MI.
He is survived by his Wife of 25 years, Cynthia Morakis Pursley, son Peter and daughter Demi; sons Brian and Chris Pursley of California; son Jamie Caio from Chicago; Sisters, Martha, Caroline, Abbie and Husband Brian and Lila. Brothers, Mark, with wife, Kathy, Paul with Wife, Lanier, and Matt with Wife Anne.
Visitation/Trisagion and Funeral Services will be held at St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church, 303 Cullum Drive, Euless, TX.
Visitation and Trisagion service will be Sunday, May 13, 7:00 pm,
Funeral Service will be Monday, May 14, 2018 10:00 am, followed by luncheon.
The family has requested in lieu of flowers donations may be made either to St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church Iconography Fund
