Philip Ray Cromeans, 85, of Hurst, passed away peacefully with his favorite hymn playing in the background only to sing it again in his heavenly home on Saturday, May 13, 2023 after a battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Ross and Callie May Cromeans; brothers Cecil and Fred, and sisters Lenora and Edna. Philip is survived by his wife of 62 years, Della; daughter Cheryl, her husband Chris, daughter Robin, her husband Jeff, grandchildren: Mark, Brittany, Matthew, Amanda, Bethany, Katelyn, and Daniel and great-grandchildren: Jude, Bonnie, Primus, Bellamy, Bila, and Jacob. He also has many nephews and nieces.
Philip was born in Travis County, Texas on October 5, 1937. He graduated from William B. Travis High School in Austin, attended Bethany Nazarene College in Bethany, Oklahoma before joining the U.S. Marines serving from 1960 to 1966. He met Della Barthel before joining the Marines. They were married at First Christian Church in Austin, Texas on March 31, 1961. For the majority of his life he worked at Santa Fe Railway, Burlington Northern - Santa Fe. He also worked as a security guard with the Texas Rangers. He was a member of the Transportation Club, DFW Ambassador Program, and the Jaycees as State Vice President. He loved the Texas Rangers Baseball Team, gardening, history, serving in many different roles in his church, City Point United Methodist Church. He loved each member of the family and called them all his children, even before they married into the family. He brought joy and so much love to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Most of all, he loved the Lord with all his heart and showed Christ’s love through his actions. He will be missed by all who knew him. He specifically asked, “Do not mourn for Phil. He is not here. He has changed addresses. He is with the Lord!”
