On Monday, August 17, 2020, Phyllis Burritt Murphy, loving wife and mother of three, passed away just two weeks shy of her 91st birthday.
Phyllis was born on August 31, 1929 to Leslie and Elsie (Briggs) Burritt in Westfield, New Jersey. She graduated from Virginia Intermont College and in 1952 married Shane Murphy. Their life together was spent in Westfield and then Dallas, where they settled in 1964.
Phyllis was very active at the Round Grove United Church of Christ and in charitable causes in North Texas. For many years and many for family members who she helped raise, she never missed a baseball game or dance recital or a chance to teach and learn, to love and laugh.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by Shane, her loving husband of nearly 68 years, sister Barbara Christman, sons Malcolm Murphy and Shane Murphy (Denise), and daughter Marcia Fisher (Mike), her five beloved grandchildren, Elizabeth Fredericks (Andy), Traci Long (Matt), Les Murphy, Kip Reiserer and Caitlin Noe (Ben) along with her adoring great-grandchildren Carson, Tyler, Jimmy, Steven, Caden and Zoe.
A private burial is planned. Donations in the name of Phyllis Murphy can be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
