Rebecca “Becky” Leatherwood, 75 passed away April 19, 2023.
Becky was born on March 18, 1948, to Betty and Bill Newberry in Dallas, Texas. She was the epitome of the Baby Boomer with a father who as a WWII Veteran and a mother who was a “Rosie the Riveter”. Becky grew up in Shady Grove, a small community between Grand Prairie and Irving, Texas. She spoke of the many fond memories of country living. Lady, the beautiful horse Becky had wished for, was a great joy of her early teen years.
One never knows when our path will cross with our future. At ages eight and eleven, Becky met Jimmy Leatherwood. Ten years later, they married on October 21, 1966. She always said she loved him enough for two lifetimes. They lived their full marriage in N. Richland Hills. Raising their two children, Cherryl and Chad.
Becky was a polio survivor and was treated at Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas. She recalled the time, though she was so young, never as sad but as joyful to have endured where so many did not. Her resiliency was how she carried herself. She was a kind and sweet individual who saw the best in all people. Those who knew and loved her are better because she was a part of their life.
Those left to cherish her memories: her son, Chad Leatherwood of Lake Worth; her daughter, Cherryl Hayen and husband, Randell; beloved grandsons, Clayton, Chase and Cameron Hayen; all of N. Richland Hills and baby sister, Melinda Kirk of Greenville.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jimmy. We find so much comfort knowing he was waiting to hold her hand once again.
Donations in Becky’s name to Community Hospice in lieu of flowers would be appreciated for the kindness and comfort they provided her.
