Richard Lee Bradley, 76, passed away on Wednesday, September 19, 2018, in his home in Fort Worth, Texas. Born on February 23, 1942 in Topeka, Kansas, to James and Virginia Bradley, Richard attended Topeka Public Schools, graduated from Topeka High School where he played basketball and attended Washburn University. In his earlier years, he worked for his father at the family-owned Bradley Grocery store in Carbondale, KS.
Richard served in the Army Reserves during the Vietnam War until his Honorable Discharge on December 31, 1971. A longtime lover of music, Dick brought his talents as a drummer to fruition in the band Purple Rain in his earlier years. He began his 38-year career with The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway Company in the 1960’s where he worked primarily in Public Relations as the Senior Marketing Representative. The company merged with The Burlington Northern near the end of his career, initiating his relocation to Fort Worth, TX in 1995, where he worked in Electronic Data Interchange as well as Marketing. He retired from the Burlington Northern Santa Fe in 2002.
Richard met Juanita Winters in 1982, in Topeka, KS, and married in 1996, enjoying 36 years together. His marriage to Juanita brought 6 stepchildren into his life. He and Juanita also enjoyed their Westie dogs, Lyndy and Grady, attending many agility trials and traveling to dog shows in their RV. Richard was an avid tennis player throughout his life. He loved cars and at any given time owned a hotrod or a truck. He bowled in leagues throughout his life, starting in high school and into the present day. He also enjoyed football, music and his daily crossword puzzles.
Richard was preceded in death by his brother, Robert L. Bradley, on January 13, 1964, by his father, James, on July 19, 1989, by his mother, Virginia, on April 23, 2012, and by his step-daughter, Susan B. Winters on July 5, 2014. Richard is survived by his wife, Juanita Bradley of Fort Worth, TX and stepchildren Amy Winters (John Whitney) of Boulder, CO, Scott Winters of Fort Collins, CO, Ronnie Winters of Phoenix, AZ, Dana Winters of Fort Worth, TX, and Chris Winters (Jillian) of Madison, WI.
A Celebration of Life service will be held for Richard at Lucas Funeral Homes at 1601 S. Main St. (Hwy 377), Keller, Texas 76248, on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 2:00pm with refreshments afterwards.
