Dan was born July 21, 1936 to William Stanley and Matilda Dodd in Grandview, Texas. He worked as a carpenter beginning a lifelong love of working with his hands. Dan went on to work as a store manager for the Safeway grocery chain followed by sales with National Life and Accident Insurance Company and finally retiring from American General in 1993. Following his retirement from the insurance industry, Dan returned to work for Delta Industrial Supply for the remainder of the 1990s.
In 1958, he met the love of his life, Donnie Fay Montgomery and they wed October 2, 1958, going on to have 3 children, daughters Dana, Darla and son Dwight and recently celebrated 62 years of marriage.
After retiring from Delta Industrial Supply, Dan spent his time woodworking, caring for his home and spending time with his family and friends.

In the interest of safety due to the current risks with the COVID-19 outbreak, the family has chosen to memorialize their loved one privately over holding a large gathering.
