Richard (Dick) Earl Liston was born August 6th, 1936 to Curtis Thomas Liston, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Richardson Liston in Waco, TX. He shared his birthday with his older brother Curtis Thomas, Jr. and once younger brother Harry came along, the boys were forever known by their moniker of “Tom, Dick & Harry”. The boys were protective of, but not beyond teasing, their much adored younger sister, Lillian. His childhood in Terrell, TX was full of treasured memories of lifelong friendships along with deep family bonds with all his Liston/Hogan aunts, uncles and cousins. He married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Annette Smith, on December 28th, 1956 in her hometown of Denison, TX. After graduating in 1960 from the University of North Texas, he began his successful career as a top sales representative, which spanned more than 40 years. A majority of those years were spent in the medical supply industry, where he provided in-service training at various hospitals throughout his Texas and New Mexico territories. While his work required much travel, it allowed him and Barbara to raise their three children, Leah, David and Paul in such locations as Albuquerque, Houston and Corpus Christi areas before returning to the Arlington area in 1978, where they settled closer to family. He taught his children by his fine example of unconditional love and strong family values, so that as they married and started their own families, his legacy and treasured traditions were passed on. In 1997 he married Bobbi Pytlik and they raised and boarded horses in Fort Worth until he officially retired from Marshall Grain on March 22nd, 2016 at the age of 79 years old. In his final years, while living at Christian Care Lakewood in Fort Worth, he developed many new friendships while enjoying various outings and weekly games of dominos and bridge. His quick smile and kind heart left a lasting impression on his fellow residents and the community staff.
He was preceded in death by: both parents; brother Tom Liston; wife Barbara Liston and infant daughter Lori Liston. He is survived and deeply missed by: brother Harry Liston & wife Judy; sister Lillian Lynch & husband Bob; sister-in-laws Kay Liston, Bettye Darrow and Rhonda Smith; children Leah Brown, David Liston and Paul Liston; Bobbi Pytlik; Melanie Ritter & husband Rawn and Farrah Parkins & husband Kelly; 12 cherished grandchildren Brandy Nellen and husband Walt, Andy Brown, Sarah Blair and husband Cody, Regan Ritter, Ryan Liston, Jacob Liston, David Liston, Jr., Emily Liston, Luke Liston, Mary Liston, James Liston and John Liston; 6 treasured great grandchildren Chance Nellen, Cheyanne Nellen, Shannon Nellen, Daisy Blair, Penny Blair and Riley Brown (with baby girl Blair expected in August); many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family.
