Richard Kent Mckeehan

April 23, 1946 — March 26, 2018

Mr. Richard Kent McKeehan passed away March 26, 2018 in Fort Worth, Texas.

Richard was born in Gladewater, Texas, April 23 1946 to Wallace Clark McKeehan and Dorothy Lee Patterson.

The second son of a Pentecostal evangelist/pastor who ministered and lived across the states of Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico, from Hood River, Oregon to Belleview, Florida prior to settling in Fort Worth in the early 1960’s. He graduated from Polytechnic High School in 1964. He was inducted into the United States Army on November 8, 1965 and served in the Army Medical Corps stationed at Fort Belvoir, Virginia for most of his service until his honorable discharge on November 7, 1967.

Upon meeting Janice Goff and a period of dating they were married October 25, 1968 at Burchill Baptist Church in Fort Worth.

Richard was a motorcycle enthusiast and traveled around Texas with the Cycle Club of Fort Worth in the 70’s. He and Janice traveled all the way to British Columbia, Canada and back on a 21-day motorcycle trip that experienced rain 17 of those 21 days. He loved the outdoors, camping and fishing.

Besides cycling and camping, Richard also enjoyed golf and restoring classic vehicles.

Upon his retirement from Dealers Electric in May of 2010 after 30 years of service, he and Janice traveled across the United States and made trips to Ireland, visiting friends, historical sites and taking in the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy motorcycle race.

Richard survived the ravages of Crohn’s disease and a kidney transplant in October of 2006 without dwelling on his handicaps with an optimistic outlook on life. It is been said that he surpassed the “nine lives” of a cat by at least ten times.

The neighbors of MacDougall Dr., Haltom City have been some of his closest friends and family over the years and the family expresses gratitude for the care and friendship extended by these wonderful people.
Richard was the “gentle giant” loved by all and will be missed by his family and many friends. Mr. McKeehan was preceded in death by wife of 49 years, Janice Marlene Goff; father, Wallace C. McKeehan and mother, Dorothy Lee Patterson. He is survived by brothers Wallace Lee McKeehan and wife, Kerstin of Wild Peach TX, Stephen Douglas McKeehan and wife, Donna of North Richland Hills TX, Kevin Apollos McKeehan of Fort Worth; Niece, Maria Kristina McKeehan, Nephews, Landon Douglas McKeehan and Zachary Taylor McKeehan; a host of cousins, great nephews and nieces, friends and neighbors.

The family wishes to express their thanks to the many caregivers that have given over years to Richard, especially the transplant floor 8 and ICU floor 2 of Baylor All Saints and the nurses, physical therapists and aides of Renew Home Health of Fort Worth. Special thanks to Margaret Carter of Renew for her care, compassion and prayers.
