Richard “Rick” Don Mewbourn Jr., 59, of Grapevine went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, December 15, 2015. The family will receive visitors on Saturday, December 19, from 3-5 pm at Lucas Grapevine Funeral Home.
Rick was born on August 22, 1956 to Richard Don, Sr. and Iris Rose Mewbourn in Dallas. He married Lisa Robbins on August 10, 1985 in Irving. Rick played sports in his younger days, focusing on football. He was a graduate of Kimball High School. He loved coaching and umpiring girls’ softball, and later became one of the founders of Grapevine Girls Softball Association (GGSA). Rick had a wonderful sense of humor, enjoyed listening to all types of music, and was a man of God. With a constant battle for 15 years, he was a strong and faithful warrior of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) aka “Lou Gehrig’s Disease”. His precious spirit and motto will live on forever, being “ALS is NOT the boss of me!”
Rick is preceded in death by his grandparents, R.W. and Opal Milam, Sherdie Kernon and W. Louvoise Mewbourn; father, Richard Don Mewbourn Sr.; step-father, J.O. Tate “Mr. Tate”; brother, Anthony Hernandez; uncle, Edd Deen; and beloved dog, Lucy “LuLu”.
Rick is survived by his wife of 30 years, Lisa; children, Jillian Prentice, Richard Don III, Risa Mewbourn and fiancé DJ Oberbeck; grandchildren, Jordan Mewbourn, Xander and Kaitlin Prentice; Easton and Rylan Oberbeck; mother, Iris Bell Milam Manasra; step-mother, Lydia Mewbourn; aunt, Auntie Jean; brothers, Barry Jack Mewbourn and wife Lisa, Kevin Tate and wife Becky, Mike Tate; sister, Terry Tate “Sweet T”; fur babies, Sweetie and Zeus; plus a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, and friends.
