Robbie Lee Starr Hancock, of Grapevine, passed away at her home on Tuesday, February 15, 2022. She was 95 years of age. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, February 21, 2022, at the Historic Grapevine Cemetery.
Robbie was born December 14, 1926, in Bristow, Oklahoma to John P. Starr, Sr. and Lillie Mae Starr. Shortly after her birth, the family returned to Grapevine, Texas where she lived her entire life. Robbie’s love for the city of Grapevine runs generations deep. Her great grandfather, Rev. Daniel Starr, a Methodist minister, settled in Grapevine in the 1800’s. Robbie’s grandfather, Barton Starr, Sr., was the first mayor of Grapevine and through the years, many family members have been involved in city government.
Robbie met the love of her life, James (Jim) Hancock, while working the soda fountain at Grapevine City Drug on historic Main Street. After marriage, Robbie worked for various dentists in Grapevine where she enjoyed meeting many area residents and loved talking about her Grapevine roots and history. Robbie was an avid gardener who spent much of her time outside tending and pruning her yard, and loving on her many furry pawed friends. There was even a time when Cannon Elementary School students took field trips to tour her home and learn about the different plants and animals that she was raising at any given time. For many years Robbie and Jim loved vacationing at their beach home in Galveston and combing the beach for treasures. “Grandmama” loved her family and will be greatly missed by her friends and loved ones.
Robbie was preceded in passing by her husband, James (Jim) Hancock; parents, John Sr. and Lillie Mae Starr; daughter, Angela Hancock; and siblings, Johnny, Jr., Mary Ruth, Emma, and Bart. She is survived by her sons, Kerry Hancock (Caryn), and Jimmy Hancock (Renee); grandchildren, Mitzi Morse (Nicky), Erica Slavens (Luke), and Taylor Hancock (Samantha); great grandchildren, Dusty, Lain, Cayden, and Jameson; siblings, Bert and LuJean; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
