Bob Carrothers, 88, of North Richland Hills, Texas, departed this earth on April 21, 2025. He was born in Pharr, Texas on April 29, 1936, to Roy Walter and Edith Jewel Carrothers. Bob married the love of his life, Centennia June Carrothers, on December 23, 1954, in Alpine, Texas. They were married for 70 years. He called his bride “the most precious person in his life.”
He was a devoted and loving father to Steve Carrothers, Kim Carrothers (and Hut) Hutto, and Scott (and Annette) Carrothers, who dearly miss him and cherish the life lessons he imparted to them. He took great pride in being “Gran” to his grandchildren: Jonathan (and Candi) Carrothers, Brandy (and Ben) Hedges, Taylor (and Pa) Hutto, Jenna Hutto, Catie Carrothers, Chad (and Cam) Carrothers, and Will Carrothers; and his great grandchildren: Ava, Eli, Leah, Baylee, Rylan, Rashaun and Bishop. He also cherished his relationship with his sister-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.
In high school, he played tennis and football and performed in the high school band playing the clarinet. He was in the U.S. Air Force from 1954-1958, and became an air traffic controller (ATC) in 1959. He retired from ATC in 1990 as a GS-15, the same rank as a full bird colonel. As a young child, he wanted to be a pilot like his dad. During his 31 years in air traffic control, he earned his commercial airplane pilot’s license and flew airplanes and helicopters for many years. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, playing tennis, working in his yard and traveling. He enjoyed traveling so much that he drove commercial buses for over a million miles without any accidents.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Leon and Leroy Carrothers, and his sisters Nedra Kelly and Rowena Sharp.
