Robert Grote Damschroeder
October 30, 1919 — January 1, 2017
Robert Grote Damschroeder, 97, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather went to be with his Lord in heaven on January 1, 2017. He was born October 30, 1919 in San Diego, California to the Rev. Clarence and Bertha Korte Damschroeder. He was baptized and confirmed by his father at Grace Lutheran Church in San Diego.
Bob met Eleanor Rumsch, the love of his life, in Abilene, Texas at her brother's wedding. She moved to San Diego and on December 7, 1941 (a day that will live in infamy), he proposed. They were married on June 20, 1943 and were blessed with over 73 years together. They lived in Chula Vista, California where they raised 3 children.
Bob served his country in the Army during World War II in the Philippines and Japan from 1944-1946.
He worked as a dedicated employee at General Dynamics in San Diego for 43 years, until his retirement. The couple retired to Sun City West, Arizona and moved to Texas in 2011.
Bob was a faithful and devoted husband and a gentle and caring father. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed golf, map-reading, and traveling with the family. He was very involved with church activities, serving as elder, usher, youth leader, and singing in the choir at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Chula Vista, California and Crown of Life Lutheran Church in Sun City West, Arizona.
Bob is loved and will be greatly missed by his wife, Eleanor; daughter, Nancy Burton and husband, Bing; son, Robert Damschroeder and wife, Melanie Findling; daughter, Ann Littlehale and husband, Leonard; grandchildren, Laura and Sarah Littlehale, Will and Abby Damschroeder, Robert Burton and wife, Rebecca; Becky and Nicky Simon-Burton; Brian Burton and wife, Kimberly; and great-grandchildren, Harper and Blake Burton, and Jeffrey and Lucy Simon-Burton; sisters-in-law, Jody Rumsch, Janet Rumsch; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Robert Damschroeder was a faithful servant of our Lord, Jesus Christ, throughout his life. He served God with a cheerful and willing spirit. He was attentive to our Lord's Word and Sacrament, continually seeking greater commitment to his Savior.
A memorial service will be held January 13, 2017 at 11:00 am at Peace Lutheran Church, 941 Bedford-Euless Road, Hurst, Texas.
Memorial gifts may be made to Peace Lutheran Church Mission Fund or LCMS Global Mission Fund.
