For all who were privileged to have known Robert Lee Garner, will remember his kindness, warmth, quiet strength, humor and loyalty. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, his Wesley Group Sunday school class, playing 42, fishing, travel, his 5th Air Force cap, riding on his tractor, gardening, eating, and sitting on his back porch drinking iced tea.
Robert was born in Windom, TX in 1931 and graduated from Kermit High School in 1950. He was a graduate of the University of North Texas and earned a master’s degree from East Texas A & M University - Commerce.
He was proud to have served as a medic in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, 1951- 1954. Through his honorable service to our country, he earned a Good Conduct medal, National Defense Service medal, UN Service medal, and Korean Service medal.
He encouraged others through his service to our communities and as a vocational education teacher at Trinity High School for 24 years. As a long-time active member of the Keller Lion’s Club, he received the Lifetime Member Award from the Texas Lion’s Camp. Robert also served as a volunteer with Southlake’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), and COPS programs. Robert and his family have been members of First United Methodist Church of Keller since 1972.
Robert Lee is survived by his wife of 58 years, Billie Jeane Garner; daughters Nanette Petrie, Gwen Garner, and Nancy Frederick; grandson Owen Petrie; brother Mark Garner and sister-in-law Milly Garner, and niece Suzie Garner of Grand Junction, CO; and a multitude of extended family and friends.
