Robert Gerald Hamric

January 15, 1966 — July 24, 2017

Robert Gerald Hamric, a longtime resident of Keller, TX, passed away on Monday, July 24, 2017. Gerald was born on January 15, 1966 in Winfield, AL, to his parents R.L. & Margie Hamric.
Gerald played football for the Winfield Pirates where he excelled as an offensive lineman, receiving several recognitions. In addition, Gerald lettered in track, sang in the high school choir and was the recipient of the Marshall Wyers Scholarship. After graduation, he attended Harding University on a football scholarship. Harding is where he would meet his future wife and love of his life. They married on July 11, 1987 and recently celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary.
Having a strong sense of duty and love for his country, Gerald enlisted in the United States Marine Corp his sophomore year of college. He chose the Marine Corp because of the challenge it would take to be named “One of the Few; the Proud”. He wore the name, Marine, with honor every day. He earned the rank of Lance Corporal. His M.O. was Track Vehicle Repairman. He was decorated with the Rifle Sharpshooter Badge.
Gerald was employed with American Airlines from July 1989 to December 2012. He worked in multiple areas: Fleet Service, Cargo, Customs, Cabin & Ramp Services, and Training Instructor. The last two years he worked in the Overhaul Shop as a Paint Specialist at Texas Aero Engine Services (TAESL) at Alliance Airfield -- a joint venture between Rolls Royce and American Airlines for engine overhaul. During almost two years of unemployment after the American bankruptcy filing, he worked various jobs with companies such as General Motors and FedEx. Gerald went on to certify with the State of Texas in his field of passion as a licensed Animal Services Officer. He did so, outside of employment with a police department – something that had never been done before. In July of 2014, Gerald was hired by the city of Haltom City as a Kennel Attendant and shortly after moved into the position of Animal Control Officer. In May of 2017, he proudly accepted a position with the City of Keller as an Animal Services Officer and was thrilled to serve his local community.
Gerald was an active member of the Keller church of Christ for over 24 years where he served the last 4-1/2 years as a Deacon over the Men’s Ministry – an area very near and dear to his heart.

Gerald loved his family and the most prized title he wore was “daddy”.

Gerald is survived by his wife, Alicia Noreen Hamric of Keller; daughter, Ava Grace Hamric of Keller; parents, R.L. and Margie Hamric of Winfield, AL; brother, Greg Hamric of Winfield, AL; sister, Shelly Diane Bostick of Northport, AL and many in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends who loved him dearly and feel the impact of his loss.

A visitation will be held on Monday, August 7, at 10 am, at the Keller church of Christ. A service in his memory will follow at 11 am. Burial will follow at the National Cemetery in Dallas.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Wounded Warrior Project. Donations can be made online at www.woundedwarrior.org .
