Robert Charles Smith

Robert (Bob) Smith, of Hurst, TX, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2024, at the age of 93. He was born on March 8, 1931, in Chatham, NJ.

Bob grew up in Chatham, NJ and attended Lehigh University, where he earned a degree in mechanical engineering. Bob served in the Air Force after attending college and later earned a master’s degree in computer engineering from the University of Tulsa. As an engineer, Bob worked at GE, and then United States Testing Company, in Hoboken, NJ and then Tulsa OK. Bob later earned a master’s degree in computer engineering from the University of Tulsa. Bob married Corinne Johns on August 20, 1960, in Binghamton, New York. Their life together led them from upstate NY, to NJ, and finally to Owasso and then Tulsa OK.

 Mechanical engineering was a career that suited Bob perfectly. Bob could build or fix anything and enjoyed gardening and repairing /updating his homes wherever he lived. After Bob’s wife passed away, he relocated from Tulsa to Hurst, TX to be close to his family.

Bob lived a life of service to his family and his church. He had a devote Christian faith and was an active member of St. Stephen’s Anglican Church in Hurst, TX, for many years. In retirement, he served as a volunteer usher at Bass Hall in Fort Worth and volunteered at the Union Gospel Mission in Fort Worth, where he shared his faith through The Alpha Program with men who lived in the homeless shelter there. Bob also worked part-time at H& R Block as a tax preparer until he was 91 years old. After his wife passed away, he was very active in the Widowed Persons groups in Tulsa and in Texas.

Corinne Smith proceeded Bob in death in September 1997. His parents, Edith and Forrest Smith, and his brother Forrest Smith, also proceeded him in death. Bob is survived by his daughters Vivianne Jones and Margie Gauthier (George), his grandchildren Laura Jones, Erin Jones, Ryan Jones, George Gauthier and Andrew Gauthier.

A memorial service with a reception following will be held on Saturday, July 27 at 1:00 at St. Stephen’s Anglican Church at 7452 Precinct Line Road, Hurst, TX, 76054
