Robert Kenneth Stearns

October 1, 1938 — October 3, 2023

Robert Kenneth Stearns of Hurst, TX passed from this life to the next into the strong, loving arms of Jesus Christ his Savior and Lord on October 3, two days after his 85th birthday.

Robert (Bob) was born on October 1, 1938, in Barnsdall, Oklahoma, to Kenneth and Ruby Stearns. He graduated from Avant High School at the age of 18 and soon after joined the army to serve in Germany. He graduated from Oklahoma City University while working full-time at the General Motors plant in Oklahoma City, OK.

After graduating with a degree in Business, Bob worked in a number of fields. He worked in the oil industry for many years starting as a line worker and finishing as the Vice President for a small oil firm in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area. Bob also worked in real estate and as a truck driver.

He met his wife, Velda Jean Gordon at the local Dairy Queen in Barnsdall. They were married shortly thereafter on March 30, 1961, in Miami, Oklahoma. They had four children: Keith, David, Michelle and Angela. They were married for 61 years, living over 40 of those years in the Hurst-Euless-Bedford area.

Bob dedicated his life to serving and loving his family faithfully. He was very involved in sharing his faith in Christ at home, at work, and in small groups, one of which he led for many years with his wife, Velda. Bob became involved in the Kairos Prison Ministry in his sixties. He participated in a number of outreaches to a maximum security prison in Palestine, TX, and found great joy in sharing Christ with the “men in white,” as he would say.

Bob was an encourager and exhorter and will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him, but we know that we will see him again in heaven.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Ruby Stearns, his wife, Velda Jean Stearns, and his brothers, Dale and Paul.

He is survived by sister, Virginia Rosebrook of Douglasville, GA, brother, Jerry Stearns of Oklahoma City, OK, and by his children: son, Keith Stearns and wife, Wynter of Eau Claire WI; son, David Stearns and wife, Melody of Lewisville TX; daughter, Michelle Stearns Knapton and husband Brent of Hot Springs, AR; and daughter, Angela Stearns Pond and husband Russ of Euless TX.; 12 grandchildren: Meghan Courtney and husband Matt, Seth Stearns and wife Janelle, Meredith McClure and husband Brandon, Christian Stearns, Luke Knapton, Marion Harllee and husband David, Caleb Pond, Tovi Stearns, Erik Knapton, Hannah Stearns, Michael Knapton and Brock Knapton and 8 great grandchildren.

Funeral service is scheduled at 10:00 a.m. on October 17, 2023, at Lucas Funeral Home in Hurst, TX. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. Burial will be at the DFW National Cemetery in Dallas, TX, at 2:30 p.m.
