Roberta Kay Castleberry was born in Wichita Falls, Texas on November 12, 1941, to Robert and Valta Rathgeber. Kay attended St. Paul Lutheran School and graduated from Wichita Falls High School in 1959. Kay was baptized at St. Paul Lutheran Church on December 21, 1941, and was confirmed on April 3, 1955. She attended Concordia College in Austin, Texas and graduated in May 1961. Kay also attended River Forest University in River Forest, IL to obtain her teaching certification for Lutheran schools.
In 1960, Kay met Terry Castleberry who was a senior at Texas A&M. They were engaged in February 1961 and married on July 29, 1961, at St. Paul's in Wichita Falls.
Kay and Terry moved several times early in their marriage, finally settling in Euless, Texas in 1969. They joined Peace Lutheran Church, Hurst, Texas that same year. Kay was the mother of Kathryn and Scott, grandmother to Tyler, Jacob, Mark and Molly, and great-grandmother to Kaylie, Bryan, Kaiti and Sawyer.
In 1973, there were many athletic programs for boys, but none for girls. Kay was very instrumental in organizing the Euless Girls Softball Associates and served as president of the organization for several years. The organization is still going strong.
