Rosamond Laboon Miller

May 30, 1930 — September 9, 2017

Rosamond Laboon Miller of Southlake, Texas passed away Saturday afternoon after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s at the age of 87.

Known by her friends and relatives as Rosie, she grew up and was educated in Oklahoma, raised a family of four there and later established her career as a Speech-Language Pathologist. After retiring her and her husband, Jim Miller, moved to Southlake.

Rosie was born and raised in Chickasha, Oklahoma, as Rosamond Laboon among eight brothers and sisters. She graduated from Chickasha High School and attended Oklahoma College for Women where she receive her Bachelor of Arts. She soon thereafter married Jim Miller, a University of Oklahoma graduate and aspiring advertising executive. Following his Army service in Korea they moved their home from Chickasha, Oklahoma with their first son, Timothy, to Tulsa, Oklahoma

It was in Tulsa where she had her three other children: Gregory, Danny and Jean Ellen. Once her children were in school there, she attended the University of Tulsa where she received her Masters of Arts in Speech Pathology. Following graduation she received her Clinical Competency Certificate from the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) and set up her private practice as a Speech-Language Pathologist. Rosie was proud of her service as a Stephen Minister for the United Methodist Church.
Rosamond Miller was the founder of the Stroke Club in Houston, Texas, helping those stricken with stroke and their families.

Her husband of 66 years, Jim, passed away this past May following a lengthy illness.

Rosie is survived by her four children and their spouses, Deirdre Miller, Gaye Miller, Doris Stevens-Miller and Porter Stiles, her sister-in-law Suzanne Moore and her husband Howard and their two children, Patrick and Jacob, as well as nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangement are being handled by Lucas Funeral Home in Grapevine, Texas. Memorial services are pending.
