Rosamonde ( Ros to her friends, Grandi to her grandchildren) was born in Perth Western Australia during WW2 after her mother (pregnant with her at the time) and older brother Robert were evacuated from Singapore during the British naval evacuation of Singapore. While in convoy, the ships directly fore and aft were both sunk by the Japanese navy. Ros came to the states in the 1960s to work as an au pair in New York City. Settling down in Connecticut to start a family, then moving to Texas in the late 80s, she worked hard as a mom to maintain a welcoming and nourishing home. She had an outgoing personality and would strike up conversations with strangers at the grocery store or in a queue much to her young sons’ chagrin. Besides being a homemaker for many years, she worked different part time jobs while her sons were at school. She retired as a member of Carroll ISD food service team after many years of service. In retirement, she found great joy in traveling, visiting with friends, hitting the casinos, and being a Grandi to her grandchildren. Ros was preceded in death by her late parents, brother Robert Leighton, and sister-in-law Margaret and ex-husband Raymond Yatko. Ros is survived by her sons Nicholas Leighton and wife Jessica of San Antonio, Texas, Timothy Yatko and his children Cyril and Cecilia of Grapevine, Texas, Niece Sarah Marrows and husband Lee, great niece Grace, and great nephew Harry, Nephew David Leighton and wife Julie, great nephew Oliver, great niece Ivy of Bedford UK, and numerous ex-inlaws and loving friends.
