Ruben S. Vijil, 59, passed away Sunday, October 11, 2020, at Advent Healthcare formerly, Huguley Nursing and Rehab. A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm, Saturday, December 5, 2020, at Lucas & Blessing Funeral Home in Burleson.
Ruben was born July 20,1961, in Monahans, Texas, to Oscar and Gloria S. Vijil. He grew up in Monahans and Burleson. Ruben graduated from Monahans High School in 1979. After high school he worked for several different places over the years Century 21, Regis inventory, and lastly for FedEx. Ruben was involved in the local sports youth associations and enjoyed his time as a baseball Umpire and football referee in Crowley and the surrounding South Ft. Worth area. Ruben also loved his four-legged friends.
He married Katrina Lambert and welcomed a son, Nathan Vijil, in August of 1984. He enjoyed watching sports or crime shows like Law & Order while hanging out with his family at his parents' house on Dorothy Drive. He was known for always peeling and eating oranges and watching some kind of sports on TV while visiting his mother and father.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Gloria S. Vijil and grandparents, Pablo and Barbara Valles.
Ruben is survived by his father, Oscar Vijil; son Nathan Vijil and wife, Christina; sister, Sylvia Fortson and husband, Steve; grandchildren, Caleb, Logan and Amora; and nieces and nephew, Jami, Jayson, and Cali Fortson; many other relatives; and his loyal dog, Jasmin.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to a local youth sports association, local pet shelter, or a charity or organization of your choice. Another seasonal consideration could be honoring Ruben by purchasing poinsettias for a local church to decorate for Christmas.
