Lieutenant Colonel Russell “Chris” Dougherty of Fort Worth, Texas passed away unexpectedly from natural causes on June 1, 2020 at home. He is remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, doting grandfather, soldier and dedicated Christian.
He was born on June 28, 1943 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Second Lieutenant, USA, Russell Ray Dougherty and Winifred Nee Hoffman.
Chris was a proud Sooner, graduating from OU in 1965 and receiving his commission in the U.S. Army where he served until his retirement in 1987. After retiring from the Army, Chris earned his Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1991 when he was also ordained as a minister. After completing CPE training in 1993 he had a second career for several years as a hospice chaplain. Chris was an avid reader and life-long learner. He was an automobile enthusiast, philatelist, and Sunday School teacher.
Chris is survived by his wife of 55 years,Donna, his son, Michael, and his daughter-in-law Carolyn, his grandchildren, Charles Vrana, Kyra, Ian and Julia Dougherty as well as extended family, his church family and many friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his son, Russell Ray Dougherty II.
Interment will be Friday, June 5 at 11:00AM with military honors at Memorial Park Cemetery in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. A memorial service will follow on Tuesday, June 9 at 11:00AM at First Baptist Church, Keller, Texas.
