Sally Lynn Sams-White, also endearingly known as Mama Sam by her immediate family and friends, went home to Heaven on March 3, 2018, surrounded by her family. She was only 59 years young.
Sally is survived by her children, Anna Marie White-Logan of Haslet, TX and Hali Lynn Spalding of Tomball, TX, her husband, David Allen White of Keller, TX, and a “coming soon” grand-daughter, Adelynn Grace Spalding. She is also survived by her devoted fur babies: Henry, Gertie Girl, Puggy, Gracie and Binky Blue. She is preceded in death by her parents, Walter Montgomery and Ruby Sams of Morristown, TN. Sally will live on forever in the hearts of a host of friends and family.
Sally was born on February 21, 1959 in Morristown, TN to Walter Montgomery and Ruby Sams with brothers, Monty and Donny. She attended East Tennessee State University, graduating with honors with a double degree in Business and Dental Hygiene. Sally and David met on a blind date, which turned into a courtship of five years and 36 years of marriage. They moved to Rogersville, TN, where they bought their first home as a married couple and she began her beloved career as a dental hygienist, or as she referred to it, where she ‘picked and grinned’. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Knoxville, TN where they had their first daughter, Anna Marie. Hali was born 17 months later, in Memphis, TN. Her surviving children remember her as a hilarious, fun-loving, driven woman, and a mother who encouraged and pushed them to pursue their dreams.
In addition to her much-loved career, Sally enjoyed landscaping and gardening. She was a hard-working individual who loved being outdoors in the sun, tending to her yard being trailed by her three dogs and two cats, as she worked diligently. She loved to entertain and was very talented in coordinating and cooking for various gatherings and holiday celebrations. She was very devoted to expanding her knowledge of the Bible and God’s teachings, also playing active roles in all of the churches she attended throughout the course of her lifetime.
Sally passed away fighting a battle against a non-winnable illness. She will be lovingly remembered as an excellent dental hygienist, an exceptional housekeeper and gardener, an individual who welcomed everyone into her home, a giving soul who enjoyed providing for others’ needs, but most of all, a dedicated and loving wife and mother.
A video to celebrate the life of Sally will begin at 10 a.m., with the memorial service commencing at 10:30 a.m., and a reception to follow on March 17, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church in Keller. Pastor Dr. Lydia Waters will officiate the ceremony, with assistance from Pastor Jim Chandler. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Mama Sam’s life with family and friends.
