Ashworth, Sandy S. Symons, 65, of Roanoke, TX, passed away on Sunday, surrounded by
family. Ms. Ashworth was born in Belleville, IL on December 8, 1947 to the late Wayne R.
Symons and wife, Ruth (Baquet), of Onaga, Kansas. She graduated from Onaga High School
in 1966 where she was a pioneer in establishing the first women's track team at Onaga High
School. She received her B.S. in Accounting from Washburn University, Topeka, KS in 1987.
Sandy started her career with Kansas Power & Light in 1970, today known as Westar Energy.
She retired as Director of Payroll Services after 35 years with the company. She was an active
member in many charitable organizations including YMCA, American Heart Association,
Mulvane Art Fair and the American Business Women's Association. Her contributions to
community and charitable organizations were often recognized, having been honored with
multiple service awards. Sandy loved to travel the world, support her beloved Kansas Jayhawks
and enjoyed doting on her niece, nephews, and grandchildren. She is preceded in death by
her parents, Wayne and Ruth Symons of Onaga, KS. She is survived by her daughters, Amy
Ashworth Pinkerton and Mike of Bedford, TX and Amanda Ashworth of Orlando, FL; brother,
Stan Symons and Susan of Wamego, KS; grandchildren, Cody and Henry Pinkerton of Bedford,
TX; niece, Mandy Symons of Denver, CO; nephews, J.T. Symons and Angie of Chesapeake,
VA, and Taylor Symons of Harrisonburg, VA; and many aunts, uncles and cousins all over the
U.S. Services will be held on January 10, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Lucas Funeral Home, 137 E.
Hill St, Keller, Texas 76248. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart
Association or The Williams Fund at the University of Kansas.
