NORTH RICHLAND HILLS -- Sandra Jane Kenna, 77, a former teacher and realtor, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2013.

Service: 2 p.m. Saturday, May 25, in the chapel of The Hills Church in North Richland Hills. Visitation: The family will receive friends 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, May 24, at Lucas Funeral Home, 1321 Precinct Line in Hurst.

Sandra, who preferred being called "Sandy," was born Aug. 26, 1935, in Shreveport, La., to Dr. James Richard Brown and wife, Katie Bostick Brown. Sandy was the oldest child of a family consisting of two sisters, Charlotte and Richea, and one brother, James Richard Jr. She attended Byrd High School in Shreveport, but graduated from high school at Stephens College in Columbia, Mo. She received her teaching degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1955.

She taught school in Shreveport, then taught elementary school in the Fort Worth ISD for eight years at Mary Louise Phillips and Westcliff elementaries. She was a substitute teacher in the Birdville ISD.

In 1975, she pursued a career in real estate and was a top seller as an agent in Tarrant County. She was active in her community and especially in her subdivision of Diamond Loch.

Sandy was a very caring, fun loving person who touched many lives and will be greatly missed by her many friends and family. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother and cherished her daughters, Laura and Julie, and grandchildren, Katelyn, Marc, Heather and Will, very much.

She was preceded in death by her parents and loving sister, Charlotte Bonham of Houston.

Survivors: Daughters, Laura Kenna and Julie Darnall; sister, Richea Brown Gaston of Houston; brother, Dr. J. Richard Brown Jr. of Red River, N.M.; her wonderful and loving grandchildren, Katelyn and Marc Costa, and Heather and Will Teames; and many nieces and nephews.
