Sandra Wyant

Sandra J. Wyant, age 63, railroader, crafter, and loving mother died unexpectedly at her home on Wednesday, October 17th.


She was born February 24th 1949 in Independence KS to Emerson Dennis and Iva (Treadway) Wyant. Her earliest years were spent on both the family's farm and the little country general store in Oak Valley, KS. She moved to the Ozark Mountains and graduated from Parkview HS in Springfield, MO.


Her long and successful railroad career began with the Frisco Railroad in St. Louis and Springfield MO. Once merged with the Burlington Northern, she moved to positions with them in Birmingham, AL and San Bernardino, CA. During her career, she reached the level of Yard Master and then was one of the first women to become a Train Master. She retired from the BNSF Railroad in Ft Worth, TX. She met and married her husband, Donnie Benton, a fellow railroader.


An avid crafter, Sandy filled the homes of friends and family with her creative gifts. She love to travel highlighted by recent trips to the deltas of Viet Nam as well as the pursuit of Mt. Kilimanjaro and the Tanzania jungles. One of her greatest delights was being in the bleachers when her son Reggie participated in High School sports.


Sandy is survived by her son, Reggie Wyant ( 6237 Adonia Drive,

Ft Worth TX 76131) who followed her into a career with the Railroad; her daughter Debbie Neuner, Linn MO; three grandchildren, Grant, Emma, and Leo Neuner; her husband, Donnie; sisters Robin Griffiths, Pine Island FL and Tammy Hodge, Fort Worth; brother, Dennis Wyant, Gainesville FL, and her mother, Iva Hodge of Fort Worth. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, many friends, and her about-to-be daughter-in-law, April Daily. She was preceded in death by her father, Emerson Dennis Wyant.


A celebration of her life is scheduled for Friday, October 26th at 4 pm at the Holiday Inn Express (1111 West Lancaster, Ft Worth)


Sandy, always a lover of animals, rescued her dog and three cats. In lieu of flowers, Sandy would certainly have been appreciative of a contribution in her memory to your local Humane Society or to The Humane Society Adoption Center, 6708 South Hulen, Ft Worth TX 76133.
