Fort Worth - Sarah Ann Stanford, 87, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, April 9, 2017.
Services: Wednesday, 11:00 am, April 19, 2017, at Arlington Heights United Methodist Church, 4200 Camp Bowie Blvd. Sarah will be laid to rest at Stanford Chapel, Waco, Tx, on Tuesday, 2:00 pm, April 18, 2017.
Memorials: May be made to Arlington Heights United Methodist Church, Fort Worth, Tx, or Stanford Chapel Cemetery Association, Waco, Tx.
Sarah was born in Burleson, Tx, August 25, 1929, to Welborne and Mary Kimbro. Sarah grew up and attended high school in Cleburne, Tx. She continued her education at Texas Wesleyan College in Fort Worth, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1950 with a degree in history and education. After graduation, she taught fourth grade at the Masonic Home and School in Fort Worth. Sarah married Earle Stanford on July 7, 1951. They lived in Galveston, Tx, for four years then moved to Fort Worth in 1955 where they remained. Sarah raised four children while teaching as a substitute teacher at Western Hills Elementary School. Sarah was a devoted daughter-in-law to Earle’s parents Edward and Elizabeth Stanford and spent many years visiting them and her mother, Mary, in Cleburne, Tx. Sarah shared her love of history with her family during family vacations to historical sites and battlefields.
Sarah and Earle joined Arlington Heights United Methodist Church in 1956 and were members of the Companions Class. Sarah served on several boards, including the board of trustees, and led operations in the church kitchen for ten years.
Survivors: Husband of 65 years, Earle Stanford and her four children, Susan Stanford, of Fort Worth, Thomas Stanford and his wife Carol, of Weatherford, Mary Alice Stanford and her husband Don Jones, of Fort Worth, and Edward Stanford and his wife Sharon, of Olympia, Wa. She also leaves behind her grandchildren Chris Bradley, Matt Bradley, Elizabeth Stanford, Courtney Stanford, and Emily Stanford. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, George Kimbro.
