Shakuntla Gupta
December 20th, 1924 - January 12th, 2020
Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Shakuntla Gupta, passed away peacefully with family by her side on January 12th, 2020 at the age of 95. She was someone who handled every obstacle in her life with grace, dignity, and respect. After the early demise of her husband, she single-handedly raised 6 children and went on to have 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; she’s truly been the glue that binds us all. She taught us that change was imminent and the best thing to do is to adapt with the times. She’s been one of the most progressive influences in all of our lives - inspiring generations to be kind and generous with people of every background. Despite not being given the opportunity to pursue higher studies, she’s always emphasized the importance of a good education and a strong work ethic. She was also highly motivated and independent: someone who would never ask for help, even at the age of 95, because she never wanted to become dependent on anyone. She truly handled all of life’s challenges with a smile on her face and believed that a positive attitude could get one through anything. She’s touched the lives of not only her family, but friends of family and those beyond. She was loved very dearly and will be missed by us all.
Shakuntla was preceded by her husband Ram Kumar Gupta of Bareilly, India and her eldest daughter Pushpa Agarwal of New Delhi, India. She is survived by her 5 children: son Murli Gupta of Falls Church, VA; daughter Usha Aggarwal of Cincinnati, OH; daughter Lata Ratna of Dallas, TX, daughter Poonam Bhardwaj of Cincinnati, OH and son Madhup Gupta of Dayton, OH. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
The Hindu Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2020.

Our mother and grandmother, Shakuntla Gupta, has been giving generously to Ekal Vidyalaya for over 20+ years. She has always been a strong proponent for the power of education, especially amongst the underprivileged. She has helped give thousands of children the right to an education. Thus, if you’d like to give, we ask that you donate to this foundation under her name so her legacy can continue to live on and inspire thousands of other children in the future.
