Sharon Mckinnie

September 13, 1962 — March 31, 2024

With heavy hearts the family of Sharon Trevelle McKinnie announces her passing on March 31st, 2024 in Bedford, Texas.

Sharon Trevelle McKinnie (Gourley) was born to loving parents Ralph Sr. and June Gourley on September 13, 1962 in Rantoul, Illinois. She graduated from North Pulaski High School, class of ‘1980.

Sharon followed in her father’s footsteps and became an Airman in 1983. She served in the Air Force honorably for nearly 8 years. She met Roy McKinnie in the service and then the two were married in 1986. They welcomed two children into their lives, Samuel McKinnie and Elizabeth McKinnie. Sharon had a passion for teaching that excelled for nearly 26 years, from multiple Texas districts (Fort Worth Independent School District, Castleberry, and Dumas ISD). She was very involved with the church and community wherever she lived. She was the type of friend that you could depend on and always there to make you smile. Her infectious laughter filled any room and it will be deeply missed. After living in Fort Worth for a significant time, Sharon decided to move to Dumas, TX in 2017. She began a new life and built strong friendships in her local church and school district where she taught school. Sharon loved the Lord and was a faithful servant of Christ. Even during her dark times, she relied on His strength for peace, love, and comfort. Psalm 73:26 reflects the strength of her faith during her life, “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” Sharon’s memory will live on through her family and friends.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph Sr. and June Gourley. Sharon is survived by her son, Samuel Thomas McKinnie and his wife Mary; her daughter Elizabeth Trevelle McKinnie and Brian Perkins; her brother Ralph Gourley and his wife, Sandra; her grandcats Reggie, Rachel, and Orion and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and other extended family.

She touched the lives of many and will be dearly missed.

A memorial service will be held in Sharon’s honor on April 13th, 2024 starting at 2 o’clock pm at First Baptist Church of Muenster, located at 121 N. Pecan St. in Muenster, Texas 76252.
