Sherry was born in Breckenridge, Texas, on July 14, 1942 to “Buster” and
Lillie Pearl Walker, and graduated Breckenridge High School in 1960. She
continued her education at Texas Christian University where she earned
her degree in three years. After college, she danced with the Fort Worth
Ballet, then worked twenty years with GMAC in Ft. Worth. She then landed
in her primary career at State Farm where she thrived for more than
twenty-five years. Sherry held her own agency in Mineral Wells, then in
Midland, and was respected by both her peers and her competitors. She
was widely regarded for her business success—fueled by her gift for
motivating people and her unyielding energy. Sherry had a contagious
sense of adventure, enjoying skiing, diving, boating, travel, music, and
floating on the Comal river. She was fiercely loyal, and committed
unwavering devotion to her faith, family, friends, Tri-Delta, margaritas, her TCU Horned Frogs and everything purple. She never missed a chance to
celebrate, and was the life of every party and an expert dancer. Her time
was exemplified by service and leadership—often in support of women’s
causes—on countless non-profit and charitable boards including Rotary,
Zonta International, Midland Rape Crisis Center, and numerous church
committees. Sherry was a member of Marble Falls United Methodist
Church and held a lifetime, steadfast faith which was the keystone of her
journey.
She is survived by her husband, Llewellyn “Bud” Culbert of Denton; her
son, Bryan Wright, married to Shauna Wright; her sister-in-law, Katherine
“Kakai” Walker; her nephew, Rory Walker, married to Merritt Walker; her
nephew, Drew Walker, married to Denise Walker; her step-daughter, Kasie
Sanderson, married to Dr. Drew Sanderson; her step-daughter, Kelly Dean,
married to Daryn Dean; her seven grandchildren, Walker, Madeline,
Virginia, Austin, Aiden, Peyton and Blake; and numerous cousins and
devoted friends. Sherry was preceded in death by her parents, William
“Buster” Walker and Lillie Pearl Allcorn Walker, and her brother, Robert
“Bobby” Walker.
