Shirley Louise (Brown) Newman was born on August 14, 1935 in Smithfield, Texas to parents Burney and Louise Brown. She graduated from Carter Riverside High School in 1953. She was employed by Mid-Continent Oil Supply before becoming a wife and mother. She married her husband, James Harold Newman who was the love of her life on May 28, 1955. They were able to spend a long and happy 63 years together. Their union brought them three children, Cindy, born in 1956, Joanne, born in 1958 and Jimmy, born in 1962. She was always very involved with her church and in her children's schools being president of the Women's Society of Christian Service and president of PTA. In 1974, she went to work for her husband's family business, Newman Bros. Trucking Company. She retired in 1984 to be with grandchildren and to travel. In 1989, she worked as a Discovery Toys consultant where she was very successful and earned several incentive trips to a multitude of destinations. In 1994, Shirley and Harold began spending their summers up in London, Ontario, Canada to be with their daughter, son-in-law and three of their grandchildren.
Shirley's eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren were extremely important to her. She was the best Nana anyone could ask for, who was always so involved in all aspects of their lives. She was an avid gardener who would spend many hours tending to her flowers and vegetables. She was the most gracious host, an amazing cook and would always be there for her family and friends.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Burney and Louise Brown and brothers-in-law, Eddie Alread and Bill Newman.
Survivors: Husband, James Harold Newman; children, Cindy Clines (Charley Simpson), Joanne MacPherson (Gordon), James Harold Newman Jr. (Julie); grandchildren, Haley Howard and Lucas Clines, Jessie, Abby and Tyler MacPherson, Thomas and Emily Erwin, James Harold Newman III (Trey); great grandchildren, Cooper and Brooks Howard; sister, Linda Kay Alread; nephew, Scott Alread (Stephanie); great nephews, Garrett and Hudson Alread; great niece, Scarlett Alread; and a host of extended family and friends.
