Sims Ivy Buttram

January 5, 1923 — July 12, 2018

Sims Ivy Buttram, age 95, went to be with His Lord and Savior on Thursday evening, July 12, 2018. He was born to Mr. and Mrs. Hugh K. Buttram on January 5, 1923 in Hillsboro, TX. He was preceded in death by brothers, James K. Buttram, George A. Buttram and Hugh O. Buttram. He married the love of his life, Dorcas Fern Mangum, on August 29, 1953, and they remained married until her death July 21, 2014. They never had children of their own but were known as Uncle Sims and Aunt Fern to so many even beyond their immediate family. They have finally been reunited and will be sorely missed.

Sims was an accomplished musician and served the Lord faithfully and joyfully as the primary organist for his home church Bethel Temple, Ft. Worth, TX for decades. As a funeral director for Owens-Brumley and Lucas Funeral Homes over the course of his lifetime, his day to day responsibilities were much more than a job. He ministered to grieving families with compassionate attention to every detail. Sims was also heavily involved with the Gideon's International and the Ft. Worth Optimist Club for many years.

Sims and Fern moved to Ft. Worth, Christian Care Senior Living/Lakewood Village in 2006. They quickly became a vital part of Lakewood Village. Sims being a social butterfly loved people and table games. They also attended church faithfully at Lakewood when they were no longer able to attend Bethel Temple.

He died peacefully at Keller Oaks Healthcare Center, Keller, TX, after being there for only 4 days. He is survived by several sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and dear lifelong friends.

Graveside service will be held Friday, July 20, 2018, 10:00 a.m., at Laurel Land Cemetery/Memorial Park in Ft. Worth, TX, 7100 Crowley Road. Officiating the service will be Rev. Dallas R.
