Sonja M. Meehan

Sonja M. Meehan (maiden name Smith) died on 23 November 2021 while a recovering patient at Bedford Wellness & Rehabilitation in Bedford TX. At age 75 she finally succumbed to the stresses of multiple organ failures. She resided at 2913 Steve Dr. in Hurst since 2007. Born on 6 June 1946 in New York City and as Sonja liked to put it while her Mother was on a shopping spree! Although no official military service she often boasted to her husband that she outranked him because of her 46 years of service to the US armed forces. 26 years for her Dad, Roy W. Smith and the 20 years of her husband totaling 46!
A graduate of University of Maine, Presque Isle (UMPI) she started her working career as a teacher. Later in her husbands’ career (1976) the family moved to West Lafayette Indiana where she attended Purdue and acquired credits toward her PHD while she taught full time in the Delphi School System. In early 1982 Sonja received licenses in Insurance & Securities; left teaching and joined the financial services business. In her new career she received many awards and retired as a Senior Vice President with the Primerica Corporation. Due to ill health she sold the business and retired in 2004.
