Stephen Bigelow beloved husband, son, father, and friend. He was a man, bigger than life. Generous, kind, loving, loyal, and devoted to his Family and Friends. An Amazing husband to his wife, Melissa and a wonderful role model to his sons, Jacob age 14 and Nicholas age 11. Precious to his parents Randy and Jane.
Steve ran All American Dogs, an animal shelter, and a non-profit rescue, Miles of Hope. Steve literally spent his days making sure that pets got back to their owners or that they found a new forever home. He had put programs into place that gave feral cats a home and had networked with specific rescues that would take the difficult dogs and work with them until they were able to be adopted. The rescue does fundraisers to help pay to keep adoptable dogs at the shelter until they can find that perfect family and they do several adoption events each month.
Steve was also Treasurer for the Boy Scout troop to which our boys belong. He was the assistant den leader for both of our boys when they were Cub Scouts. For several years, he was the leader of the Watchdog program at the boys’ elementary school, which ensured that there was at least one dad on campus each day to be a good, positive male role-model for the students. Steve has also been a Mason at the Keller Lodge for 7 years; he enjoys the opportunity to serve his community with his fellow brothers.
He was the man who would drop everything to help a friend. A few days after he was diagnosed, he pinched a nerve in his neck and was in a lot of pain. He still went to help a friend move. If he saw someone stranded on the side of the road, he would always pull over to see if he could help. Steve was the kind of person we all hope to be. He gave without asking for anything in return; he was the kindest soul of anyone that ever met him. Melissa, family and his friends were very blessed to have him as their partner, father, son and friend in this life.
Not only was he an amazing husband, he was a top-notch Dad. Nicholas and Jacob thought the world of their dad. They spent countless hours together while attending school events (band concerts and National Junior Honors Society), karate, Boy Scouts, camping and other man adventures. Steve was patient, loving, and an excellent role model for the men he was teaching them to become. He touched everyone that knew him.
In lieu of flowers, his wife would like to set up donations to a go fund me account to be put in a college fund for Steve's boys
