Stephen Douglas Hart

January 4, 1943 — May 17, 2020

Stephen Douglas Hart of Fort Worth, Texas passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 17, 2020. Beloved husband of Margaret (Peg) Hart. Loving father of Hal (Sheila) Hart and Megan Gryczkowski. He was the proud grandfather to Hayden and Hudson Hart and Hayleigh Gryczkowski. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Harriett Hart and siblings Hollis (Hart) Powers and Harold L. Hart.

Steve was born on January 4, 1943 in San Diego, California. His parents had relocated there with his older sister Holly from Cedar Rapids, Iowa during World War II. After returning to Iowa, the family welcomed younger brother, Hal. Steve joined the Navy during the Vietnam War and became an air traffic controller, a career he carried into civilian life. He met Margaret (Peg) Blunt and started a family as his career took them from Des Moines to Omaha and eventually Dallas/Fort Worth. Along the way, Steve and Peg had two children and grew to love life in Texas. After changing careers, he worked for Freeman Companies in Dallas, where he stayed for more than 17 years without missing a day of work. Steve eventually built a home on the Richland-Chambers Reservoir where he and Peg retired.

Steve was a strong, loyal, funny, quiet, caring, giving and a loving man. He was fair and just. He was kind and sweet. He was dependable and honorable. He will be dearly missed by all.

Due to unprecedented times, the family has chosen to postpone a memorial service for a later date. Steve will be laid to rest on Thursday, May 21, 2020 at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
