Steven Burda

July 12, 1947 — July 17, 2024

Steven Douglas Burda, a devoted husband, loving father, dedicated serviceman, and cherished friend, passed peacefully alongside his beloved immediate family July 17, 2024, at the age of 77 in Fort Worth, TX. His lifetime of joy, commitment, and unwavering loyalty will be celebrated in a memorial service - to be held on August 24th at 10 am at Lucas Funeral Home in Keller. Born on July 12, 1947, in Davenport, IA, Steven was the beloved son of the late Keith and Beverlee Stukas Burda. Steven attended Bryan Adam's High School in Dallas. Shortly after attending high school, he received the honorable call from his country where he bravely served as a Marine in the Vietnam War as a Helicopter Mechanic ultimately achieving the rank of Sergeant (E-5) in just 5 years. During his years of service, he was classified as a rifle expert receiving several accommodations in recognition of his service – such as the National Defense Service Medal, Letter of Commendation, Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Upon completion of his military tenure, he established a Texaco gas station, alongside his father in Richardson, TX. This is where he met his wife of 51 years, Sandra, on a blind date and the rest was history. He also held various aviation and auto mechanic jobs before embarking on a successful 32-year career at Federal Express - culminating in his esteemed role as Fleet Maintenance Manager. Some of his fondest memories during this time were leveraging his mechanical gifts working on his son's go kart, traveling the state racing. His zest for adventure also led him to obtain his pilot's license. He also was an avid runner and cyclist – taking any chance he could to be free in the great outdoors.

In retirement, Steve and Sandra embraced a nomadic lifestyle, traversing the country in their Foretravel Motorhome, forging meaningful connections, and fostering lifelong friendships along the way. As an avid sports enthusiast, Steve found solace in the thrill of NASCAR races and his unwavering support for the Dallas Cowboys.

Though Steve's inimitable spirit was reflected in his passion for outdoor activities, his dedication to family and fierce love extends to those he now leaves behind; his wife, Sandra Burda of Fort Worth, his children: Joey Burda (Becca) of Flower Mound, and daughter Christy Smith (Lance) of Round Rock, as well as his sister, Barbara Heuss of Dallas. He also leaves behind his 3 grandchildren – of which he cherished dearly; Cooper Smith, Presley Burda & Hope Burda.

A beacon of integrity, meticulousness, and boundless generosity, his memory will endure in the stories shared by those whose lives he touched. In lieu of flowers and in honor of his commitment to service, contributions to Mercy International are encouraged.

As we prepare to bid a fond and heartfelt farewell, let us gather on August 24th to celebrate the life and legacy of Steven Douglas Burda, a man whose indomitable spirit and unwavering dedication will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His memory will continue to inspire us all to live each day with passion, purpose, and compassion.
