Stoney Milton Stubbs Jr passed away peacefully in the loving care of his family on November 15, 2023, at the age of 87.
Stoney was born in Fort. Worth, TX on September 8, 1936 to Stoney M. Stubbs and Florence Weller Stubbs. Though born in Fort Worth, Stoney was raised in several towns in Texas including College Station while his father served in WWII. After the war, the family relocated to Dallas where Stoney graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1954. From there Stoney spent the next four years as a proud member of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Corps of Cadets class of 1958. Upon graduation, he served his country in the US Army. He married Julia Blanchard on June 18, 1960. Stoney joined his father and uncles in business at Frozen Food Express in Dallas. Stoney worked in all areas of the company attaining the position of President in 1979, eventually becoming CEO and Chairman of the Board in 1984.
During his career, “Mit”, as he was known in the trucking industry, took FFE from a regional LTL carrier to one of the largest nation-wide refrigerated Truckload & LTL carriers. Mit was an industry icon serving as Chairman of the Board of the Texas Motor Transportation Association in 1994 and was honored as its Leader of the Year in 2002. He also served as Chairman of the Truckload Carriers Association in 1996. Mit served in several other capacities including the Executive Committee of the American Trucking Associations, Western Highway Institute, and the Texas A&M Transportation Institute.
Stoney, a lifetime Aggie, proudly served on the College of Agriculture Development Council. In 2009, he was inducted in the Tyrus R. Timm Honor Registry. Stoney’s love for A&M began with his father who graduated in 1934, and continued through his three children, their spouses, and his grandchildren.
Stoney enjoyed spending time with his family on vacations and at their lake house. An avid sports fan, he loved attending Aggie football games with his family, and was a big fan of the Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys. If he wasn't able to attend the games, be assured he was watching on a television or two.
