Sue Johnston of Bedford, Texas passed away on Thursday, December 7, 2023. She will always be remembered as a loving Wife, Mother, Sister, Mimi, and Great-Mimi to all who knew and loved her.
She was born on July 5, 1939 in Terre Haute, Indiana to L.G. and Daisy Crowley. She grew up in Terre Haute with two brothers; Wayne and Larry and 4 sisters; Marilyn, Sharon, Beverly and Juanita. She lived in her home with her family until she met Lloyd Johnston who would be her husband of 58 years. Sue and Lloyd were married in her hometown on December 17, 1961. They moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming for the remainder of Lloyd’s active duty in the Air Force. After leaving the Air Force, they moved to Texas and never left. Sue was a working mother who made a career working in the bank industry and retired after 30 years. Sue and Lloyd have two children; Terri Spradlin and Jeff Johnston and his wife Lori Johnston, 6 grandchildren; Kasie Schmidt and her husband Jacob Schmidt, Kory Spradlin, Kelli Spradlin, Travis Johnston and his wife Devin Johnston, Dillon Johnston, and Carson Johnston, and 4 great-grandchildren; Ethan Johnston, Addison Johnston, Cecelia Schmidt and Elena Rose Johnston.
Sue’s greatest joy in life was her family. She was a natural caretaker who retired in order to help take care of her grandchildren. She was always available for anything they wanted or needed. She loved to host sleepovers, throw pool parties and New Year’s Eve parties for her grandchildren. Sue always made sure Christmas was a magical time for them.
Sue and Lloyd loved to travel and were able to visit many places within the United States. They especially enjoyed visiting family in Indiana and Iowa, as well as, going to Branson, Missouri with her sisters.
There will be so many who will miss her.
The family of Sue Johnston would like to send a special thank you to the staff at La Dora Nursing and Rehab Center for their care and compassion for Sue and her whole family.
Sue will be placed with her husband Lloyd Johnston in the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery, at a later date.
