Captain Terry Owen Warner USNR (Ret.) – Captain Warner passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2022. He was born in Rockford, Illinois on July 18, 1939 to Paul F and Vivian Warner.
Captain Warner entered the Naval Aviation School of Pre-Flight, Pensacola, Florida in February 1962 and earned his Wings of Gold and was commissioned an ensign in August 1963. His first tour was with Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron TWELVE aboard the USS RANDOLPH, USS ESSEX and USS ROOSEVELT. During his career he made 195 arrested landings.
In February 1967, Captain Warner was released from active duty and joined the Naval Reserve program at NAS Dallas, Texas while flying the C-118 aircraft. He was recalled to active duty in June 1971. While serving with VAW-88 he graduated from Laverne College in 1973 with a Bachelor of Arts. He returned to the transport community in June 1973 and Joined VR-53 in 1978. While attached to VR-53, he served as Training Officer, Administrative Officer, Operations Officer, Assistant Officer in Charge and Commanding Officer. During this Command, he led the transition to the C-9 aircraft and assumed command of VR-59.
He flew commercially for Braniff, Muse and Continental Airlines and operated the Lockheed Electra, Boeing 727, 737, 747 as well as the DC9 during his career in civilian aviation.
Captain Warner was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, The Honorable Aniela S Warner. He is survived by his three children, Greg, Marc (Melissa) and Shannon (Michael) as well as three grandchildren, Rachel, Lauren and Holton.
He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend, a dedicated Naval officer and skilled aviator.
A service will be held at Lucas Funeral Home in Keller, Texas on January 5th, 2023 at 10:00am.
Captain Warner will be laid to rest at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
