Reverend Thomas "Tom" George Butcher, of Carrollton, Texas, passed away on July 27, 2024 at the age of 75 years. Tom was born on May 10, 1949 in Owasso, MI to JoAnne Sullivan Butcher and Donald “Don” S. Butcher Sr and would be the oldest of seven children; Kathryn, Don Jr., Sue, Jan, Sandy, and Tim. Most of his childhood and young adult years were spent growing up in Corunna, MI. As a young man, Tom played varsity football in high school and was dubbed the nickname “Corunna Flash” after achieving records which he still holds to this day. While the rest of the team rested during halftime, Tom joined the marching band to play his trombone. Tom would go on to earn his Bachelors of Science from Adrian College and then earn Master Degrees in Divinity and Christian Education from Pacific School of Religion in California.
Tom would later accept an opportunity to minister in Phoenix, Arizona. This is where he met the love of his life, Charly, and the two would be married on May 2, 1993. They spent the majority of their lives together in Arizona before moving closer to Texas family members in 2018. Aside from ministry, Tom maintained a love for family gatherings, travel, cheering on the Detroit Lions or Arizona Cardinals, and any vacation spot near the water.
Thomas George Butcher is preceded in death by his mother, JoAnne, his brother, Don Jr., and his step-son, Chad Chaffee. Left to carry on his legacy include his devoted wife of over 30 years, Charly Butcher; his father, Don Sr.; his children, Todd (Jamie) and Alicia; step-children, Stephen “Johnny” (Lori), James “JJ” (Amy), Michael “Myk” (Kim), and Misty Chaffee; 16 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, his lifelong friend of over 60 years, Richard Bacon, a large church family, and cherished friends.
