Thomas J. Haas, 79, passed away Wednesday, May 6, 2015.

Memorial service: 10am, Monday, June 1 at the Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery leaving from Lane "C". There will be a post-memorial gathering at 7120 Comal Dr., Irving, Texas 75039.

Thomas was born April 14, 1936 in Chicago, Illinois to Carl and Bertha Haas. He was the youngest of nine children and was definitely the baby of the family. His siblings referred to him as Lil' Tommy. In his younger years, he attended the prestigious De La Salle Institute on the South Side of Chicago and graduated with honors. After a brief stint at The University of Loyola, Thomas joined the military to pay for college. He served 3 years of active duty in the United States Coast Guard and another 5 years of reserve duty in the Coast Guard and the United States Air Force.

In 1963, Thomas received his Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from The University of Illinois with a scholastic average of 4.24. Shortly after, he moved to St. Louis where he met his future wife Fay Dougherty. They settled down and had two sons, Anthony and Andrew. Eventually his work would move the family to Texas where he finished his career at Bell Helicopter Textron. For 28 years at Bell, Thomas was a key contributor to the development of the V-22 Osprey Tiltrotor aircraft receiving a design patent in 1986. His life's work paid off for the V-22 is now widely used in the Navy, Air Force and Marines.

Thomas is survived by his: Brother, Ralph Haas; sister, Barbara Salstrand; sons, Anthony and Andrew Haas; grandchildren, Elias and Lillian. He was a good, honest man who provided for his family and he will be greatly missed.
