Thomas Albert Mitchell, Jr. (Tommy), resident of Burleson, Texas, passed away on October 31, 2023 at Heart to Heart Hospice Inpatient Care Facility at the age of 81 years.
Tommy was born March 31, 1942 to T.A. Mitchell Sr. and Josephine Gray Mitchell in Fort Worth, TX where he spent the majority of his life until relocating to Burleson in 2005. Tommy graduated from Polytechnic High School and proceeded to earn a bachelor’s degree from Texas Wesleyan University in 1969. Upon graduating college, Tommy started his career with Farmers Insurance in 1970 until his retirement in 1997. Afterwards, he worked as an independent adjustor in storm damaged areas until he decided to completely enjoy his retirement a few years later.
Tommy met the love of his life when he was introduced through mutual best friends to Sandra Lynn Folse (Sandy) in 1965. They were married September 20, 1968 at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Fort Worth. Tommy and Sandy had one child and were further blessed with two grandsons, two granddaughters and one great grandson. He devoted his life to providing a safe and happy home with countless warm memories.
He loved reading Louis L’Amour Western novels, the Bible, and being outdoors manicuring his lawn and building gardens. Tommy had a knowledge and love of building all things including a lake house at Lake Leon that was enjoyed by family and friends on many a summer weekend. Tommy was a faithful attendee and supporter of First Baptist Church of Burleson. He lent his time and skills to family and friends, and to anyone in the community that needed help, including Habitat for Humanity.
Tommy is survived by his best friend and wife of 55 years, Sandy Mitchell and his son, Randy Mitchell and daughter in-law Tina Mitchell. He is also survived by his grandkids – Jake, Cameron, Mia and Ava, and Mason the great grandson.
He was preceded in death by his father T.A. Mitchell Sr., his mother Josephine Mitchell, and his brother Dick Mitchell.
A memorial gift in his name to the Alzheimer’s Disease Research program would be appreciated if you feel led to give instead of gifting flowers.
