Thomas Charles Shumway

Thomas Charles Shumway was born in Enid, Ok, January 5, 1938, to Vinton and Eva Shumway. Tom spent his formative years in Nigeria, Africa on missions with his parents. He returned to the United States and graduated high school in Oklahoma. After high school, Tom joined the navy. He served throughout the Pacific including notable times in Thailand and New Zealand.

After traveling the world, Tom returned home to Oklahoma and married Beverly Goldman in Ponca City, OK on February 13, 1959. Tom and Beverly were married sixty five years. They were deeply in love and Beverly tirelessly cared for Tom as he fought his battle with Parkinsons. Tom is also survived by 2 children (spouses) whom he loved very much; Wade (Maureen) and Toni (Jim); 3 grandchildren Penelope Bergstrom (Christian), Jimmy Rohweder and Danny Rohweder (Emma); and 4 great grandchildren. Tom is survived by his younger brother David and predeceased by his parents Vinton and Eva and his brother Harry.

After marriage Tom and Beverly relocated to the Dallas Fort Worth area and Tom began a 38 years long career with Allstate. Tom worked hard and had a very successful agency in Grand Prairie. Tom sold the agency in 1998 and began his Senior Softball journey. Tom loved the competition and comradery of softball. He traveled the United States competing in tournaments. Tom was an excellent athlete and competed with his team in the Senior Softball World Series. They won 3 world championships. Tom was inducted into the Softball Hall of Fame. Beverly traveled with him cheering from the stands. He was handsome in his uniform and she was his beautiful wife.

Tom passed away peacefully at his home on December 5 with family by his side. Tom will be remembered at a graveside service Monday, December 11, 2pm at the Bourland Cemetery in Keller, Texas. Following the ceremony, Life Church, North Richland Hills will graciously host a fellowship at the church.
