Thomas Boyd Walker

TOM WALKER
Thomas Boyd Walker passed away November 27, 2023 in Grapevine Texas. He was born to
Robert L. Walker and Bernice Boyd Walker August 5, 1933. He was raised in Irving, Texas. He
married his high school sweetheart Genell Price in 1952. He and Genell welcomed three
children Valerie, Rusty, and Gaye into their family.
He graduated from the University of Texas in 1958 and received a master degree in 1962 from
UNT.
Tom became a teacher coach at Grapevine Junior High in 1959. He became principal at
Grapevine Junior High in 1962 which became Grapevine Middle School. He was honored to be
the principal to the students faculty and coaches at GMS He took his role as their leader very
personally, and made sure it was a positive and productive place for learning and working. He
touched the lives of many students and went above and beyond as more than a principal but a
friend and a role model. He retired as the GMS principal in 1987. He was honored by that
school with a football field named for him. He has also been honored as GHS Hall of Fame
faculty member and GCISD Walk of Honor 2023.
He loved golf, fishing, and hunting.
He was proceeded in death by his wife Genell and his brother Bob.
He is survived by his sister, Judy Walker. His children Valerie Quinn and husband, Andrew,
Rusty Walker and wife, Sharon and his daughter Gaye Walker . He had six grandchildren
Joseph Quinn, and wife Neesha, Tom Quinn, and wife Rebecca, Ashton Parker and husband
Sean, Sean Quinn, and wife Lysa and Pamela and Daniel Walker. He had six great
grandchildren Liz, John, Margot, and Birdie Quinn, Alice and Ruth Parker.
As our patriarch, he taught by example what it means to be a hard-working family man. His life
was lived with honesty, integrity, and unconditional love, which has left its mark on the hearts
of those of us he leaves behind behind.
We are his legacy.
