On Friday, May 14, 2021, our beloved, Traci Abney Walls, of Bedford, Texas, died peacefully in her home at the age of 55, with her husband, Greg and her boxer dog, Koo, by her side. True to her character, Traci fought pancreatic cancer with bravery, determination, and positivity, never losing her sense of humor.
On July 17, 1965, Traci was born in Arlington, Texas to David and JoAnn Abney. She was raised in Euless, Texas. On May 16, 1987, she married her best friend and love of her life, Greg Walls also of Euless. Greg and Traci were blessed with three adoring sons, Chad, Clay and Chase Walls. Traci put her heart and soul into being a loving mother to her three boys. She was ecstatic to become a Nana to five grandchildren: Chance, Chanel, Semaj, Maya and Kaelynn who gave her so much happiness and everlasting joy.
Traci was the youngest of eight children which includes brothers, John Conner, Joe Clifton and Perry Abney and sisters, Connie Smith Oliver, Randi Abney Barbour, Toni Abney Wilcox, Jana Conner Risinger and Micki Abney Hare. She was loved by many nephews, nieces, cousins, and a mountain of friends.
Traci was baptized by her son, Clay, on March 21, 2021 in a sweet, personal service at her home with family. Traci had a unique perspective on life and she saw the good in everyone. She loved deeply and expressed that often by saying, “I love you big.” She gave the most loving hugs and could cuddle a baby like no other. Traci loved music and always created a play list that everyone envied. She enjoyed dancing and would usually be the first one on the dance floor. She was a wonderful cook and loved to provide her family and others with meals of the best comfort food. Her dog, Koo, provided Traci with extra comfort and watched over her every day as her constant companion. She was an example of what can only be described as “being at peace.” She never complained. She always loved. She welcomed everyone. She persevered through each day, never losing sight of what mattered most to her: her family, her friends, and time spent with them. Traci was an extraordinary person who impacted the lives of everyone she knew.
In 2003, Traci joined AT&T and worked in management where she left her unique, larger than life “brand” on numerous colleagues and friends. Many of those fondly called her “Big Mama.”
In the words of Traci: “I want my memorial to reflect the life I lived which was fun-loving and full of joy. I would like my friends and family to tell stories and share memories that make them laugh, not cry.”
Her family would like to thank the caregivers at the UT Moncrieff Cancer Center in Fort Worth for providing Traci with exceptional care.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 23, 2021, at 2:00 pm at the Lucas Funeral Home in Hurst, TX, officiated by Uncle Jack Frasier. True to her selflessness and giving spirit, Traci requested that her body be donated to UTSW Cancer Center in hopes of helping others. In lieu of flowers, Traci asked that donations be made to UTSW Cancer Center in Dallas.
