On Sunday, April 25, 2021 Valerie Anne Logozzo nee Reardon left this earthly sphere and resides in Paradise. On Tuesday, April 9, 1935 In Calcutta (Kolkata), India Valerie was born to Patrick St. Alban Reardon and Gwendolyn Marie Keane. Valerie was the 3rd child after Patrick and Christine and she was followed by the baby of the family Daniel. If you were ever to ask Valerie about her childhood she would recount stories that made you wish you could go back in time and play with her siblings, her cousins aka the children who lived upstairs and herself. Valerie grew up during the 2nd World War and as her Uncle Sonny was off fighting for Her Majesty against the tyranny of the Nazis, his wife and children lived with Valerie’s family. So her mother and her poor Aunt Baby had to contend with 8 rather rambunctious, mischievous children but to Valerie it was the best of times. It was as a child that Valerie developed her all-consuming love of music and that love would continue through her life.
Valerie and her elder sister Christine went to an all-girls Catholic boarding school, St. Joseph’s in Conoor, Tamil Nadu, India which was quite a trip from her home in West Bengal. But the train trip was an adventure to her and she enjoyed making it with her beloved big sister, even if she didn’t particularly care for school itself. Valerie has fond memories of her time at St. Joseph’s as she made lifelong friends including several nuns. Valerie will tell you French nuns are the kindest and German nuns are the strictest, due to her personality she had loads of experience with the German nuns. Her sister and she made their first communion at St. Joseph’s and her all-time favorite confessor was at St. Josephs.
When Valerie was a teenager, India won its independence and her father decided to move the family to America. Which, for Valerie’s children, grandchildren and so forth, it was a fortuitous moment; for in America is where she would meet the love of her life, Rocco. Valerie and Rocco met at a USO dance, Valerie loved dancing and her brother Paddy was one of her all-time favorite partners. Rocco was a dashing Marine, during the Korean conflict, who reminded Valerie of her favorite leading man, Dean Martin. After a whirlwind romance and a 1st date that literally was made for entertainment, in fact the retelling of that particular story was published in the Miami Herald to celebrate Valentine’s Day, Valerie and Rocco married Nov. 29, 1955 and from that day to this their love has never faded.
Valerie and Rocco had 4 children born to them, Rocco, Vincent, Michael and Cristina. Throughout their marriage they lived all over the United States. Starting their life together in California (Santa Monica and Sacramento) where all their children were born. They lived in New York City, Rocco’s hometown, in Miami, Florida, and their children were raised in South Miami Heights. In their later years, following along after their children, Valerie and Rocco settled in Burleson, TX. Throughout her life, Valerie would work at various hospitals, her longest tenure was at Coral Reef Hospital, now known as Jackson South. It was here where Valerie met some of her closest and truest friends. Valerie enjoyed her job as she got to talk to lots of people from all different walks of life, and since most were sick and/or injured she had a captive audience. She knew how important her interactions with patients were and she knew that kindness and attention was the best medicine she could provide.
Valerie had a tendency to make friends and those friends became family. Such as our much-loved Auntie Pauline and her besties, Blossom and Maureen. Valerie was devoted to her family and as such her children and all her grandbabies grew up regaled with stories of her hijinks with her cousins and siblings. Harassing rickshaw drivers, stealing fruit from the temple, driving nuns crazy and so many more. She told anyone who would listen about her aunts and uncles and their children. She even appropriated Rocco’s stories and told her children and grandchildren stories about his brothers and sisters… of which he had lots!
Valerie was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Patrick and Gwendolyn; brothers, Paddy and Danny; and sister, Christine.
She is survived by her husband, Rocco and their children, Rocco (Charity), Vincent (Angie), Michael (Donna) and Cristina (Jim); grandchildren, Jennifer, Alexis (Mike), Valerie (Jeremy), Christina (William), Vincent (Victoria), Cleve (Matthew), Anthony (Raleigh), Justina (Yusuf), Michael, Jerrett (Erika), Angelina (Joshua), Sandra (Manny), James, Eileen (Greg), Lorraine (Colby); great-grandchildren, Kylie, Rebecca, Julie, John, Ryan, Carter, Luke, Paisleigh, Juniper, Judd, Josiah, Leighton, Alex, Austin, Arthur, Charlotte and Gabriel; great-great grandson, Austin; and cherished sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and numerous nephews and nieces. She is also survived by those who adopted her and she adopted them Terri, Mike, Jeff and Mary, Steve and Paul, Cathi, Jamie, Ronnie and all your babies.
